Semi-Charmed Summer 2012 Book Challenge

We have recently came back from a 10-day long spring vacation in Spain. Before we left, it was cold and rainy in Ankara. After the holiday, we reached a warm and sunny Ankara and it felt good to be away from the rain and wind of Madrid. The nice weather still continues, which makes me think that summer has almost arrived.
I was surfing from one blog to another today and I came across Semi-Charmed Kind of Life's Summer 2012 Book Challenge. I loved "to do" list required by the challenge and loved the challenge button so I decided to participate. Lately, I have participated in sci-fi related challenges as sci-fi is my favourite genre but I also want to stay diversified when picking books to read.

There are various categories in this challenge and with each step you accomplish, you get points. The maximum you can reach is 200 points. My personal aim is to pass 100 points as my reading generally slows down during summer time because of weather. Well, let's see where I will get to by the end of August (The challenge runs from May 1 to September 1). Here comes my list of what I plan to read:

1. Ender's Game / Orson Scott Card to get 5 points for reading a book chosen for the U.S. 2012 World Book Night.
2. Jane Eyre / Charlotte Bronte to get 10 points for reading a book I was supposed to read in school.
3. I need to find a memoir or narrative fiction to get 10 points.
4. The Hedge Knight / George R.R. Martin to get 15 points for reading a book in one day. (The book I picked is a picture book so I'm cheating a little. I'll give myself 5 points if I manage to read it in a day!)
5. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? / Philip K. Dick to get 15 points for reading a book that I have always wanted to read but haven't gotten around to yet.
6. I need to find a pair of books that have antonyms in the titles to get 20 points (Honestly, I don't think I'll be able to get these points).
7. To get 20 points, I need to read a book that is set in a place I've never been but want to visit (I don't have a particular book in mind for this one but it'll come out along the way).
8. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams to get 25 points for reading  a book written in the year I was born (1979) that was later made into a movie. I'll watch the movie as well.
9. I'll go to a bookstore, pick any bookshelf, buy the third book from the left on the fourth shelf from the top.  If the book is over 200 pages, if I haven't read it before, I'll buy it. I think I'll pick Turkish literature bookshelf for this one. If I manage, I'll get 25 points for this one.
10. I need to read a book about which I've heard bad things to get 25 points. I have no particular book in mind for this one.
11. If I manage to read a trilogy, I'll get 30 points but I already know I won't be able to do this one.

I really liked this challenge. It's gonna be fun :)

By the way, before I listed my books, I mentioned about diversifying my reading genre a bit away from sci-fi. 3 of 5 books I listed above are sci-fi. I'm so addicted!!!

  1. Welcome to the challenge! I'm so glad you found it. :) Be sure to check back tomorrow for the first check-in. Good luck!

P.S. — Ender's Game was AMAZING. Just read it this year and it's now one of my favorite books. I'm sure you'll love it, especially because you're a sci-fi fan.
